Description for the category: Proofreaders

I do a quality check on publications, usually just before they go to printing. I review books, magazines, newspapers, business publications, website pages, specialist publications (academic or business reports), academic journals, and technical manuals to make sure there are no spelling, grammar, punctuation, or style errors. If a particular style is preferred, I can use The Chicago Manual of Style, The Elements of Style, or the AP Stylebook. I also review page numbers, headings, and captions for correctness. In addition, I review the captions on photos and illustrations. Passive sentences become active sentences (without losing content or meaning) so they are more alive to the reader. I review every input item in a work. I make myself available to the client to answer any questions upon return of the documents.
